Coit Tower

Coit Tower is a 210-foot (64 m) tower in the Telegraph Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, California. The tower, in the city's Pioneer Park, was built in 1933. Lillie Hitchcock Coit left one-third of her estate to the city "to be expended in an appropriate manner for the purpose of adding to the beauty of the city which I have always loved".

The art deco tower is made of unpainted reinforced concrete. Architects Arthur Brown, Jr. and Henry Howard designed it. The tower has fresco murals by 27 different on-site artists and their assistants, plus two additional paintings installed after creation off-site.[]

The tower was not designed to resemble a fire hose nozzle, despite Coit's affinity with the San Francisco firefighters of the day, in particular with Knickerbocker Engine Company Number 5.

Hike up the Filbert Stairs for a scenic route! Elevator only fits 8 at a time, so it’s a bit slow going to get up/down. Weekdays are best for avoiding long lines. Unreal views on a clear day!

Do not drive to get there! Use your legs! Beautiful sightseeing all around the tower. You can start from the market and walk along the pier before heading to the tower

An oasis on top of the city with views across the bay, exotic gardens and hummingbirds. What more do you want?

The view you get from the top of the tower on a nice day is spectacular. That's ultimately what this place is about so if you have a nice camera you'll get some pretty amazing shots. $8 per person.
